Here is a new interview with King from Bangor Daily News. King talks about Duma Key, turning 60 and a new novel he is writing right now:

The author is now in the midst of writing a long novel set in western Maine. "So tell folks they can enjoy a short vacation in warm weather ["Duma Key"], then I’m coming back home," King joked.

Time Magazine releases the title of King’s upcoming collection:

His next book of short stories, Unnatural Acts of Intercourse, will come out this fall or next spring, and he's working on a "novel that's going to be very long. I'll be killing a lot of trees if it gets done."

According to Zap2it King will be on the Today show on the 22nd. Other reports says that King, a former Guild member, supports the striking writers and won’t promote Duma Key on television talk shows.

Not much to report as the news flow is slow right now but I can tell you I get a copy of the audio version of Duma Key today and John Slattery is doing a very good job narrating it. It’s on 18 CDs and takes about 23 hours to finish.

The last day of 2007 is here. Tomorrow it’ll be 2008. It’s funny how fast time goes by. In 2008 Lilja’s Library will celebrate it’s 12th year and it feels just like yesterday that I celebrated the site’s 10 year anniversary. Amazing.

So much has happened during 2007 that I didn’t even imagine would happen. The year started with me getting an interview over the phone with the man himself. Stephen King and I chatted for 45 minutes and I can honestly tell you that that’s one of the most amazing things I have ever done.

I also got to do an interview with Frank Darabont. That one was done by mail and we corresponded some in addition to that as well and I must say that Frank is one of the nicest people I have ever met. Even though he is a big name celebrity he really took the time to put his all into this interview and for that I will always be grateful.

We also got a new Bachman book during 2007. Many with me had been hoping for one but not really daring to think we’d actually get one. But with the release of Blaze we did. Other things that was released during 2007 was the movie version of The Mist and the first story arc of The Dark Tower comic. They where both huge successes.

What can we expect to see during 2008 then? Well, in just about three weeks we’ll get the new book Duma Key. I have read it and I feel quite comfortable with tell you that I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with it.

We will also see the release of the second story arc of The Dark Tower comic. This one is called The Long Road Home and begins in March.

Besides this I have some other projects waiting to be announced. The biggest one is something I’m rather nervous about but I hope you will like it as much as I do. I can’t really talk about it yet but as soon as I can you’ll be the first one to know, that is a promise.

With that said I also want to take this opportunity to thank you all for the fantastic support you have all given Lilja’s Library during 2007. Your support has made the site one of the biggest Stephen King fan site’s on the net and for that I can’t thank you enough. I hope to keep your interest during 2008 as well and I will do everything in my power to give you as much interesting stuff as I possible can.

So, all that is left before the new year is to wish you all a Happy New Year! And I hope to talk to you all again in 2008!

The Dead Zone canceled:

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - After months of speculation, USA has officially canceled veteran sci-fi dramas "The Dead Zone" and "The 4400."

Although things didn't look good for the two series because they are older and expensive to make, during the past several months the cable network looked for ways to bring them back. But it ultimately opted to end their run.

"We wish we could keep all our great shows alive forever," said Jeff Wachtel, executive vp original programming at USA. "But we feel we need to give some of our new shows a platform to grow, and it's with great sadness that we say goodbye to two shows that had a great run and helped create the resurgence of original programming on our network and on all of cable."

"Dead Zone," which ran for six seasons, and "4400," which was on for four, had aired as a sci-fi-themed block Sunday night.

"4400" creator/exec producer Scott Peters broke the cancellation news on the show's fan message board.

"We've had a great time bringing you this story and submersing you in the lives of all these incredible characters," he wrote. "I wish we could go on forever, but the party has come to an end."

"Dead Zone," along with "Monk," put USA on the original programming map when they launched in summer 2002.

Based on Stephen King's characters, "Dead Zone," was created by the late Michael Piller and his son Shawn. Its premiere set a record for a series debut on basic cable with 6.4 million viewers.

The record was broken two years later by the opening of "4400" (7.4 million), which launched as a limited series.

In addition to "Monk," USA's slate of original series includes "Psych," "Burn Notice" and the upcoming "In Plain Sight" and "To Love and Die."

It was especially nice to hear from you this year because I turned 60 and finally had to kill my teddy bear. Just joking about the teddy bear, but it's a little traumatic and you guys helped to ease the pain. I hope you will all have a happy holiday season whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza, or simply the imminent coming of Great Cthulhu. It’s now confirmed that King will release a collection after Duma Key. This is what the moderator on the official message board said:

The next book after Duma Key will be a short story collection and most of the recent ones published will be in that.

I also just got confrimation that once the book is out it won't be called Pocket Rockets.

A Note from Chuck Verrill, the Longtime Editor of Stephen King

In the spring of 2006 Stephen King told me he was working on a Florida story that was beginning to grow on him. "I'm thinking of calling it Duma Key," he offered. I liked the sound of that--the title was like a drumbeat of dread. "You know how Lisey's Story is a story about marriage?" he said. "Sure," I answered. The novel hadn't yet been published, but I knew its story well: Lisey and Scott Landon--what a marriage that was. Then he dropped the other shoe: "I think Duma Key might be my story of divorce."

Pretty soon I received a slim package from a familiar address in Maine. Inside was a short story titled "Memory"--a story of divorce, all right, but set in Minnesota. By the end of the summer, when Tin House published "Memory," Stephen had completed a draft of Duma Key, and it became clear to me how "Memory" and its narrator, Edgar Freemantle, had moved from Minnesota to Florida, and how a story of divorce had turned into something more complex, more strange, and much more terrifying.

If you read the following two texts side by side--"Memory" as it was published by Tin House and the opening chapter of Duma Key in final form--you'll see a writer at work, and how stories can both contract and expand. Whether Duma Key is an expansion of "Memory" or "Memory" a contraction of Duma Key, I can't really say. Can you?

While the strike could throw a wrench into all current development, ABC has a provocative new drama in the works that's loosely based on Stephen King's 2005 mystery novel The Colorado Kid. The author and EW columnist describes the script, from The Dead Zone's Sam Ernst and Jim Dunn, as "closer to The X-Files than Supernatural." King will have a small stake in the show (currently dubbed Sanctuary) should it go to series, "but it's not something that keeps me up nights, the way Kingdom Hospital did."

Things are starting to happen with Grant's edition of The Little Sisters of Eluria and The Gunslinger:

Two years ago, I announced that Donald M. Grant, Publisher, Inc. will be publishing a book containing THE LITTLE SISTERS OF ELURIA and the revised edition of THE GUNSLINGER (which was published by Viking). Stephen King has chosen to title this combined volume THE LITTLE SISTERS OF ELURIA.

The book is illustrated by Michael Whelan and will contain new art as well as the art originally published in the first edition of THE GUNSLINGER.

We have now received from Michael all the additional art for the book and can start working on design and production.

Price, schedule and other details have not been set and when further information is available it will be posted on our website and published in our newsletter. We expect that this will be announced in the beginning of 2008.

Horrormeister Stephen King has chilled the bones and unleashed the screams of millions, but probably never the way he did yesterday in Manhattan -- with a diaper.

The author/phenomenon was signing autographs (non-threateningly) outside his New York hotel, when one slightly deranged mother asked King to sign her baby's diaper. King, saying he'd "changed a few," obliged, which sent the little girl, whose poop-pouch was being taken away, into paroxysms of panic.

No word if the inscription read, "All work and no play make baby a dull girl."
