Bloody Disqusting reports that The Gingerbread Girl is the next King story to be filmed.
Stephen King‘s The Gingerbread Girl has been optioned by U.S. production and distribution outfit Brainstorm Media, which plans to distribute the film in North America, reports Deadline out of Cannes.
The good news here is that frequent Stephen King collaborator Craig R. Baxley will direct the film from a screenplay written by both King and Baxley.
“The story focuses on Emily, a woman recovering from a recent loss in a secluded house in the loneliest stretch of New England. She avoids contact with her husband and her father and channels her grief into a grueling daily running regimen. This is doing her all kinds of good, until one day she makes the mistake of looking into the driveway of a man named Pickering. Pickering also enjoys privacy, but the young women he brings to his home suffer the consequences of knowing him. The tension hinges on whether Em will be next.”
Mitchell Galin will produce. Casting is currently underway.
King has finished yet another book after The Outsider (and I don't mean Elevation). Here is what the moderator of King's official message board said:
Since he finished THE OUTSIDER (which was already in production behind the scenes when SLEEPING BEAUTIES came out), Stephen has written another book and a few short stories/novellas, one of which (ELEVATION) will be released in November.
Great news about the UK edition of Shining in the Dark. This edition (only released in 350 copies) will not only be signed by me and artist Francois Vaillancourt as first announced. Five of the authors (Stewart O’Nan, Brian Keene, Richard Chizmar, Ramsey Campbell and Brian James Freeman) have also signed the book!
The Cannes Film Festival has started and the first King news is that Netflix has closed a deal for In The Tall Grass by Stephen King and Joe Hill. James Marsden is in negotiations to star, and Vincenzo Natali is adapting to direct.
The film will begin production this summer in Toronto. The film will be produced by Splice‘s Steve Hoban, Jimmy Miller at Mosaic, and M. Riley.
Dead Central talked to script writer Jeff Buhler about the new Pet Sematary.
When we first started our conversations, Dennis and Kevin and I really connected around the idea of bringing the story back to the source material, to find a modern telling of the book that really spoke to some of the big scenes and big moments that Stephen King had originally written.
All of that feels so poignant and universal. It’s our desire to really reconnect to those elements of the story and bring them into a world that speaks to the modern horror audience.”
There may be Victor, there may be some Zelda, and there will definitely be some Louis and Rachel and Gage and Ellie. I will say this, if you love the book, you’ll love this movie. (Directors) Dennis and Kevin are both such visionaries in terms of how they’ve approached it, from not only a horror standpoint but also a character standpoint.
What worries me a bit is that he says they are doing a modern version of the story. Makes me think that they have changed it a bit to make it more appealing to today’s moviegoers (i.e. a younger audience). Might just be me but I guess we’ll see on April 19, 2019 when the movie is set to premier.
Two contests has ended and I have picked the winners.
The first one is for the giant moth that Hodder & Stoughton used to promote Sleeping Beauties. The winner or this one is…Carsten Lang in Germany.
The other contest is the one where you were supposed to show yourself with Lilja’s Library. And the winner here is…Brittany Overgaard (please send me your address). The motivation is as follow:
“This photo perfectly illustrate the joy I hope Lilja’s Library bring to all my readers and also the joy I feel when I work on the page and talk to other fans about King’s work”
We’re now only 24 hours away from finishing the Kickstarter for the Swedish edition of Shining in the Dark, Varsel i Mörkret. But fear not, there are still a few copies left if you haven’t gotten yours yet. Just head over to the Kickstarter and one of the 666 copies can be yours.
But remember, there are only 24 hours left. After that, if there are copies left, the prize will be higher.
The Kickstarter for the Swedish edition of Shining in the Dark, Varsel i Mörkret, only has 71 hours left. At the moment we have collected 141% of the money we need to do the book so the book will be released (in September). What we try to do now is collect 200% of the money. If we do we’ll be able to release the book in hardback and with a new wonderful cover done by Vincent Chong that did the original cover. Just that will be worth buying the book for.
The Swedish edition will also include a brand new Brian Keene story. One that is so new that it’s not even done yet. Brian is working on it as we speak and it won’t be released anywhere else until 2019 at the earliest.
Also, if you don’t live in Sweden and still want the book it’s no problem. The book can be bought from everywhere in the world from this url! It will be a nice collectable, only released in 666 copies.
Oh, and if you’re thinking about getting the book, do it now because if you want until after the Kickstarter has ended, if there are even any copies left, they will be more expensive than they are now.
So, please help me reach the 200% goal. If you have already bought the book, please spread the word about it.

Andy Muschietti teased a bit about IT: Chapter 2 at Warner Bros’ presentation at CinemaCon.
The sequel, appropriately titled IT: Chapter Two, will cover the second half of the novel, taking us back to Derry, 27 years after the events in the first film. Although we still have over a year to go before the release of the sequel, Muschietti is already preparing audiences for the tone the film will have.
Among the material shown (and teased) by Warner Bros. during their panel at Cinem Con was that of IT: Chapter 2, with Muschietti teasing it is “going to be scarier and more intense,” and even advising the audience to “bring your adult diapers.” The studio also teased the beginning of production this summer, but didn’t reveal any details.
The only names confirmed for the sequel are the young versions of the Losers Club, as the film will feature a few flashbacks and Skarsgård reprising his role as Pennywise.
Looks like The Long Walk has finally reached the big screen...
New Line Cinema, which made the big-screen version of Stephen King’s It, is staying in the King business, setting its sights on adapting his novel The Long Walk.
James Vanderbilt, who was behind the Robert Redford-Cate Blanchett drama Truth, has written the script to adapt the book, which King wrote under the pseudonym Richard Bachman.
Vanderbilt will also produce with Bradley Fischer and William Sherak. Mythology Entertainment is the company behind the project and the company's Tracey Nyberg will executive produce.
The Kickstarter I’m running to release Shining in the Dark in Sweden just reached 100%. The book will be released in September and the title will be Varsel i Mörkret.
Thank you all who made this possible!
Those of you who haven’t bought the book yet can do that here.
But that is not all. To celebrate this I’m happy to announce that Brian Keene (who has already written An End To All Things for the book) is, as we speak, writing a new short story, so new it dosn’t even have a title yet, that will be included in the Swedish edition of the book. This story will not appear anywhere else until next year...at the earliest.

On April 2nd a Kickstarter was launched to get Shining in the Dark translated into Swedish. I'm happy to be able to say that with 10 days left we have reached 79% of the needed amount. Thanks to everyone who has supported the Kickstarter.
But I need your help to finish the Kickstater with a BANG during it’s last week. All in all, I need 100,000 SEK (US$12,000) to do the book but I'm aiming higher. I want to collect twice that amount because then Vincent Chong who has done the original cover will do a new, unique cover for this edition. I will also be able to make it in hardcover and the way it deserves to be done.
So, if you haven't already, head over to the Kickstarter and support if you can. This will be a beautiful edition, only released in 666 copies and if you support it your name will be on the “Thank you” list in the book.
Variety reports that Jason Clarke is in negotiations to star in Paramount’s remake of Pet Sematary. If Clarke’s deal goes through, he will play Louis Creed,
Simon & Schuster has announced that Will Patton will narrator the audiobook edition of The Outsider, available on CD and for download on May 22nd, 2018.
Collider reports that IT: Chapter 2 will start filming this summer in Toronto.
The sequel was officially announced just two weeks after IT landed in theaters, and with the follow-up set to arrive in theaters on September 6, 2019, Indiewire reports that IT: Chapter 2 is will start filming this summer in Toronto. “The script is still being finalized and the locations are currently being scouted in anticipation of shooting then,” producer Roy Lee confirmed to the outlet. Muschietti is set to return as director, along with his sister, producer Barbara Muschietti, and screenwriter Gary Dauberman, who reworked the original script for the first film from the draft by Cary Fukunaga and Chase Palmer.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Bill Hader and James McAvoy is in talks to play Richie Tozier and Bill Denbrough in the second movie.
Pennywise may have located the grown-up Richie Tozier and Bill Denbrough, sources confirm to EW.
Bill Hader is in talks to star in the sequel to It as the motor-mouthed joker Richie (played in the first film by Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard), and James McAvoy is negotiating to take on the role of Bill (originated by Midnight Special actor Jaeden Lieberher).
As previously reported, Jessica Chastain is in talks to play the adult Beverly Marsh, the part previously played by Sophia Lillis.
It’s contest time and this time it’s something quite different you can win. Hodder & Stoughton has an extra Moth from the promotion of the book Sleeping Beauties by Stephen and Owen King that they will send to the winner.
All you have to do to enter is answer these three questions and you need to do it before May 3 (the book is not included in the prize).
You can also buy the new paperback edition of Sleeping Beautieshere.
Stephen King explains why he chose to live in Bangor in this essay from 1983.
Of course we fell in love with the house we live in, and it has never disappointed us. Have we disappointed it? Disappointment probably isn’t the right word. I think it disapproved of us at first. The parlor seemed cold in a way that had little to do with temperature. The cat would not go into that room; the kids avoided it. My oldest son was convinced there were ghosts in the turret towers (that idea was probably more due to the Hardy Boys than to parental influence).
Here is a review of the Italian edition of Shining in the Dark. If anyone out there happens to see it in a bookstore, please take a photo and send it to me.
A week ago a Kickstarter was launched to get Shining in the Dark translated into Swedish. I'm happy to be able to annonce that after just a week we have already reached 50% of the needed amount. Thanks to everyone who has supported the Kickstarter.
But I need more help. All in all we need 100,000 SEK (US$12,000) to do the book (we how have a bit more than half of that). But I'm aiming higher. I want us to collect twice that amont because then Vincent Chong who has done the original cover will do a new, unic cover for this edition.
So, if you haven't already, head over to the Kickstarter and support if you can. This will be a beautiful edition and there will only be 666 copies made.
Entertainment Weekly has a new article called The untold story of Stephen King and Steven Spielberg's (almost) collaborations. Here is what King says about it.
Check out this illustration by Jordan Monsell. It’s entitled King Country and features more than 170 different King characters, references and easter eggs.
And if you can’t find them all…here is the key to them all…BUT…only look at it after you have tried!
As you know (and if you didn’t you do now) I have been running a contest to celebrate Lilja’s Library’s 20-year anniversary. The winner will get a copy of the US edition of Shining in the Dark signed by me and Vincent Chong (I can add a personal note as well if you’d like me to). The ending of the contest has been delayed a few times due to the fact that the book itself has been delayed but now I have set a date for when I will draw a winner and that is Sunday April 15.
To enter I want you to send in a photo of yourself and Lilja’s Library. Lilja’s Library you might ask? Yes, take a photo of yourself and Lilja’s Library in some form. It could be you in front of the computer (where you can see Lilja’s Library), it could be a photo of you and my book, it could be a photo of you and your tattoo of Marv (if anyone has one), or any other form of Lilja’s Library. Draw Marv and pose with him, read the site on your phone and take a photo of yourself doing it…your imagination is the limit. The rule is that Lilja’s Library and you need to be in the photo (and not just a toe or a finger, your face at least). That’s it. Not to hard, right?
I will then draw the photo I like the best (what I like is for me to know and you to find out) as the winner. If you have already sent a photo and think: "darn I should have been more creative", then just send another one. As mentioned the prize is a copy of Shining in the Dark: Celebrating Twenty Years of Lilja’s Library.
You all know about Shining in the Dark by now. The anthology created to celebrate the 20 anniversary of Lilja’s Library. Now you have a chance to be part of its Swedish edition; Varsel i Mörkret!
When you make a pledge through the Kickstarter (live through April) you’re not only helping getting the book published in Swedish but you’ll also get your name included in the book. The book will be limited to 666 copies and no matter where you live you can be part of this exciting project.
So head over to the Kickstarter and help getting the book out in Sweden and even if you don’t understand Swedish this will be a great addition to you King Collection.
