15 YEARS! That's how long Lilja's Library has been online. In 1996 (the photo to the right shows how it looked in 1997) I created the site and to start with it wasn't much to write home about but today it's one of the biggest Stephen King fan site's out there which I'm very proud and grateful for. And to celebrate this event I have (besides a new look thanks to my friend Anders Jakobson) put together a celebration contest and let me tell you, there are a lot of prizes in it for you.

Read Mile 81 6 days early

But only if you live in the US... Scribner, StephenKing.com and Klout are running a contest where you, if you submit some info and live in the US, can win a copy of Mile 81 6 days before it's release. You can read more about the contest (who is open between 6:00am and 11:59pm EST today 8/25/11) here.

Not living in the US I was naturally a bit bummed out about not being able to enter but then I read this "As an added bonus, those who are chosen will also receive a link to forward a second digital copy of Mile 81 to a friend". So, if anyone wins and don't know who to send it to, maybe Lilja@Liljas-Library.com would be a good choice?

King in Bag of Bones?

Posted: August 25, 2011, 09:00
_
Dread Central reports that two young actresses have joined the cast of A&E's four-hour adaptation of the Stephen King novel Bag of Bones from director Mick Garris: Caitlin Carmichael, who has credits in both "True Blood" and "Dexter", is playing Kyra Devore while local Canadian thespian Fiona Forsythe has signed on for an as yet unnamed character.

The real news though is talks about a Stephen King cameo in the project. This comes from one of the "higher ups" on the production – with the word being King would be playing a clergyman.

Bag of Bones continues to shoot in Nova Scotia with a wrap set for September 28th.

Description of The Wind Through the Keyhole

Posted: August 24, 2011, 17:27
_
Here is a short description of The Wind Through the Keyhole

For readers new to The Dark Tower, THE WIND THROUGH THE KEYHOLE is a stand-alone novel, and a wonderful introduction to the series. It is a story within a story, which features both the younger and older gunslinger Roland on his quest to find the Dark Tower. Fans of the existing seven books in the series will also delight in discovering what happened to Roland and his ka tet between the time they leave the Emerald City and arrive at the outskirts of Calla Bryn Sturgis.

This Russian Doll of a novel, a story within a story, within a story, visits Mid-World's last gunslinger, Roland Deschain, and his ka-tet as a ferocious storm halts their progress along the Path of the Beam. (The novel can be placed between Dark Tower IV and Dark Tower V.) Roland tells a tale from his early days as a gunslinger, in the guilt ridden year following his mother's death. Sent by his father to investigate evidence of a murderous shape shifter, a "skin man," Roland takes charge of Bill Streeter, a brave but terrified boy who is the sole surviving witness to the beast's most recent slaughter. Roland, himself only a teenager, calms the boy by reciting a story from the Book of Eld that his mother used to read to him at bedtime, "The Wind through the Keyhole." "A person's never too old for stories," he says to Bill. "Man and boy, girl and woman, we live for them." And stories like these, they live for us.

More from King?

There where an interesting comment by the moderator of King’s official board today. When asked if King might consider putting more of The Cannibals online to keep the fans going until 11/22/63 and The Wind Through the Keyhole the moderator gave this interesting answer:

Sorry, John, he's put as much out as he wants to for now. We do have other things coming up already in the works for that in-between time, though.

The things we know about are Mile 81 (September 1), The Little Green God of Agony(September 29th in A Book of Horrors) and The Dune(Granta magazine's Fall/Winter issue, late Oct.) and I have no idea if it’s this the moderator means but personally I think it sounds like there is more…

More from Grazer about The Dark Tower movie.

But don't polish up your six-shooters yet: Grazer also stated that none of this will get underway until next year, after Howard finishes his Formula One racing movie Rush. And, yes, Javier Bardem is still attached to star as Roland ... but who knows what wrinkles may arise in an actor's schedule in a year's time?

TCM Presents The Horrors of Stephen King

Cinematically-speaking, what scared Stephen King?

Turner Classic Movies is going to explore this in a new doc produced by DreamWorks Television and award-winning filmmaker and author Laurent Bouzereau, a man who has been involved in a number of featurettes for King-themed special edition DVD releases like Christine.

In October, TCM will premiere A Night at the Movies: The Horrors of Stephen King, with the master storyteller himself discussing the classic horror films that influenced him the most.

Premiering on Monday, October 3, at 8 p.m. (ET), Stephen King discusses how he discovered terror at the movies. The best-selling author and filmmaker takes viewers on a journey through many aspects of the horror genre, including vampires, zombies, demons and ghosts. He also examines the fundamental reasons behind moviegoers’ incessant craving for being frightened. Along the way, he discusses the movies that have had a real impact on his writing, including Freaks (1932), Cat People (1942), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), Night of the Living Dead (1968), The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), Jaws (1975), Halloween (1978) and The Changeling (1980), to name a few.

A Night at the Movies: The Horrors of Stephen King will kick off an entire month of classic horror on TCM, with each Monday night’s lineup packed with memorable chillers. The offerings include Universal classics like Frankenstein (1931) and The Wolf Man (1941), Val Lewton thrillers like Cat People (1942) and I Walked with a Zombie (1943), Hammer classics like Horror of Dracula (1958) and cult favorites from William Castle and Roger Corman, to name a few.
