The Dark Tower Poster In The Wild

Posted: March 24, 2017, 08:55
_
Thanks to Bryant Burnette we can now see The Dark Tower movie poster hanging at an actual movie theatre. How cool is that. This is finally happening!

It also confirms that the first one we saw was cut at the bottom. Here we can clearly see that Roland and Jake are in fact standing on something.

It also shows that the top of the first poster we saw was also cut. The difference here isn’t as big but it shows more of the ground.

Thanks to Bryant Burnette.

Here is a better look at the Empire photo of Pennywise.

There’s supposed to be a less-is-more thing in horror. It’s like you’re not really meant to show the monster. But Pennywise is different. With Pennywise, it’s like, ‘This is the monster, I’m showing it to you… and you’re going to shit a brick.’

More IT & No Filming Of Part 2 In March

Posted: March 13, 2017, 11:00
_
Director Andy Muschietti showed the teaser as well as a clip from the film this weekend and we have already gotten a description of the teaser. Here is a description of the scene that was shown (source: Daily Dead).

We were also shown about five minutes of another scene that introduces Ben Hanscom while the Losers' Club begins to explore the sewers below Derry, as they suspect that’s where Pennywise calls home. It was a great way to see the relationships between the kids explored, and I loved how naturally they all responded to each other.

Muschietti also revealed that he wanted to keep Bill Skarsgard (who play Pennywise) away from the kids as much as possible.

He was with them for the read-through, but then that was it, and all the kids were like, “It’s okay, he’s not going to scare us,” but that first day he got onto the stage, they fucking freaked out. I can’t even describe how scary he looked in person.

There has been rumors about the second movie would start shooting in March but when asked about that Muschietti had the following to say:

"It's just a complete misinterpretation of the facts. It's not happening now. We're in the midst of post production.”

So, there you have it.

- The teaser will be scary as Hell.
- Bill looks great as Pennywise
- The second movie won’t start film in March.

Pre-Order The Making of Cujo

Posted: March 9, 2017, 08:43
_
Now you can pre-order . You can get it in hardback ($39.95) or paperback ($29.95).

Place your order here.

“It’s Not A Monster…It’s Just A Doggy…”

Based on the bestselling novel by prolific author Stephen King, Lewis Teague’s masterfully conceived, created and performed film adaptation of Cujo hit theatres in 1983 – a year that became a benchmark for King adaptations with both The Dead Zone and Christine also terrifying audiences around the same time.

Cujo would impress critics and fans alike, and would be regarded as one of the most successful of King’s stories brought to the screen during the eighties. The film would also showcase a phenomenal performance from star Dee Wallace, who throws herself into the rich and complicated part of alienated adulteress Donna Trenton, making it a true tour de force role for a woman. Along with Wallace’s poignant and dedicated control of the protagonist, this horror classic would feature some of the most thrilling and exhilarating animal action ever put to screen. Lead by dog trainer Karl Lewis Miller, the multiple St. Bernards used to portray the titular rabid canine would terrify hardened horror devotees with brilliantly orchestrated attack sequences during the film’s climactic siege sequence that would see Dee Wallace trapped inside a dead Ford Pinto with child actor Danny Pintauro along for the harrowing ride.

With it’s sophistication and deep subversive intelligence, Cujo is a biting critique on the breakdown of the American family, an electric take on the “woman in the storm” story trope, a personal and introspective ecologically themed horror film (a subgenre usually socially and politically motivated) and a perfectly realised example of the power of circumstance. It also thoroughly scrutinizes fear – both real and imagined – in a sharp and magnetic manner.

Lee Gambin’s book analyses the entire film scene by scene - and along with the academic input there is exhaustive coverage of the production. This is the ultimate in “making of” books, where no stone has been left unturned. From the film’s problematic early days with originally assigned director Peter Medak being fired, to detailed insight into screenwriter Barbara Turner’s take on the source material, to Lewis Teague being brought in to take over as director along with cinematographer Jan de Bont and beyond, this definitive tome features over thirty candid interviews with cast and crew such as stars Dee Wallace, Daniel Hugh Kelly and Danny Pintauro, director Lewis Teague, composer Charles Bernstein, as well as stunt man Gary Morgan who played Cujo in many scenes (care of a St Bernard costume). There are many more additional voices who were on set represented in the book such as Danny Pintauro’s parents as well as some highly deserving and loving insight about the late great animal trainer Karl Lewis Miller, from his daughter Teresa Ann Miller.

With over 200 pictures (most of which have never been seen), this is the perfect tribute to a modern classic – a pure celebration of eighties horror, Stephen King, dogs in film, powerhouse performances from women and much more.

The bottom line here is this…everything you have ever wanted to know about Cujo is in this book!

A spectacular father/son collaboration like no other, Stephen King and Owen King tell the highest of high stakes stories: what might happen if women disappeared from the world of men?
In a future so real and near it might be now, something happens when women go to sleep; they become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place...

The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease. Is Evie a medical anomaly to be studied? Or is she a demon who must be slain?

Set in a small Appalachian town whose primary employer is a women's prison, SLEEPING BEAUTIES is a wildly provocative, gloriously absorbing father/son collaboration between Stephen King and Owen King.

The Running Man That Almost Happened

Posted: March 4, 2017, 12:12
_
Slasherfilm had a very interesting article about how The Running Man came about.

Before Paul Michael Glaser directed The Running Man, four other directors worked on the movie and here are info on the three alternate versions we almost saw.

“He had an interesting idea that the movie should be the actual broadcast, which would have had some narrative problems because how did [Ben Richards] get in trouble and stuff like that,” de Souza said. “He was making it very British. He said on an English crew, you have a tea lady who comes around with a cart of tea and biscuits. When the tea lady came through, the show stopped the crew stopped, the stalker stopped and the runners stopped and they all took a break, then started up again. It was kind of a Monty Python bridge too far. Before you could say, ‘What is the capital of Assyria?’ he was gone.”

The Stephen King Podcast Needs You!

As most of you know nothing in this world is free. Not even running a podcast. It costs money to host and run a podcast and because of that we would like to ask those of you out there that enjoy listening to us talk for about 90 minutes a couple of times a month to help out.

The last months we have had over 5,000 downloads of each episode and if even a fifth of all of those who downloaded the episodes donate $1 each we would have money to cover the costs for quite some time. And I mean what do you really get for $1? Why not spend it on something you enjoy?

But please note that if no one donate we'll still keep doing the pod. We will still keep talking for about 90 minutes a couple of times a month. However, if you DO donate we will mention you in our podcast as a supporter of the show. Unless you want to be anonymous, then that’s OK as well.

Thank you in advance for your support and if you want to help out, just click on the link and enter an amount.

Gwendy’s Button Box: New Book By King & Chizmar

Posted: February 28, 2017, 18:21
_
The book Stephen King and Richard Chizmar has written is called Gwendy’s Button Box and will be released by Cemetery Dance in May.

Here is a description of the plot. Something that exits me extra with this is the line: ”We ought to palaver, you and me“. We have heard that word Palaver before right…

The little town of Castle Rock, Maine has witnessed some very strange events and unusual visitors over the years, but there is one story that has never been told...until now.

There are three ways up to Castle View from the town of Castle Rock: Route 117, Pleasant Road, and the Suicide Stairs. Every day in the summer of 1974 twelve-year-old Gwendy Peterson has taken the stairs, which are held by strong (if time-rusted) iron bolts and zig-zag up the cliffside.

At the top of the stairs, Gwendy catches her breath and listens to the shouts of the kids on the playground. From a bit farther away comes the chink of an aluminum bat hitting a baseball as the Senior League kids practice for the Labor Day charity game.

One day, a stranger calls to Gwendy: "Hey, girl. Come on over here for a bit. We ought to palaver, you and me."

On a bench in the shade sits a man in black jeans, a black coat like for a suit, and a white shirt unbuttoned at the top. On his head is a small neat black hat. The time will come when Gwendy has nightmares about that hat...

Journey back to Castle Rock again in this chilling new novella by Stephen King, bestselling author of The Bazaar of Bad Dreams, and Richard Chizmar, award-winning author of A Long December.

Here is what King said about working with Richard:

“I had a story I couldn’t finish, and [Chizmar] showed me the way home with style and panache,” King said in a statement. “It was a good time, and I think readers will have a good time reading it. If they are left with questions, and maybe have a few arguments, all the better.”

Rich added…

“Steve sent me the first chunk of a short story,” Chizmar says. “I added quite a bit and sent it back to him. He did a pass, then bounced it back to me for another pass. Then, we did the same thing all over again – one more draft each. Next thing you know, we had a full-length novella on our hands. We took a free hand in rewriting each other and adding new ideas and characters. The whole process took about a month.”
