Update: The Swedish Edition Of Shining in the Dark

On April 2nd a Kickstarter was launched to get Shining in the Dark translated into Swedish. I'm happy to be able to say that with 10 days left we have reached 79% of the needed amount. Thanks to everyone who has supported the Kickstarter.

But I need your help to finish the Kickstater with a BANG during it’s last week. All in all, I need 100,000 SEK (US$12,000) to do the book but I'm aiming higher. I want to collect twice that amount because then Vincent Chong who has done the original cover will do a new, unique cover for this edition. I will also be able to make it in hardcover and the way it deserves to be done.

So, if you haven't already, head over to the Kickstarter and support if you can. This will be a beautiful edition, only released in 666 copies and if you support it your name will be on the “Thank you” list in the book.

IT: Chapter 2 Starts Filming This Summer

Collider reports that IT: Chapter 2 will start filming this summer in Toronto.

The sequel was officially announced just two weeks after IT landed in theaters, and with the follow-up set to arrive in theaters on September 6, 2019, Indiewire reports that IT: Chapter 2 is will start filming this summer in Toronto. “The script is still being finalized and the locations are currently being scouted in anticipation of shooting then,” producer Roy Lee confirmed to the outlet. Muschietti is set to return as director, along with his sister, producer Barbara Muschietti, and screenwriter Gary Dauberman, who reworked the original script for the first film from the draft by Cary Fukunaga and Chase Palmer.

Richie Tozier And Bill Denbrough Cast?

Entertainment Weekly reports that Bill Hader and James McAvoy is in talks to play Richie Tozier and Bill Denbrough in the second movie.

Pennywise may have located the grown-up Richie Tozier and Bill Denbrough, sources confirm to EW.

Bill Hader is in talks to star in the sequel to It as the motor-mouthed joker Richie (played in the first film by Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard), and James McAvoy is negotiating to take on the role of Bill (originated by Midnight Special actor Jaeden Lieberher).

As previously reported, Jessica Chastain is in talks to play the adult Beverly Marsh, the part previously played by Sophia Lillis.

Stephen King explains why he chose to live in Bangor in this essay from 1983.

Of course we fell in love with the house we live in, and it has never disappointed us. Have we disappointed it? Disappointment probably isn’t the right word. I think it disapproved of us at first. The parlor seemed cold in a way that had little to do with temperature. The cat would not go into that room; the kids avoided it. My oldest son was convinced there were ghosts in the turret towers (that idea was probably more due to the Hardy Boys than to parental influence).

You & Lilja’s Library: Photo Contest

As you know (and if you didn’t you do now) I have been running a contest to celebrate Lilja’s Library’s 20-year anniversary. The winner will get a copy of the US edition of Shining in the Dark signed by me and Vincent Chong (I can add a personal note as well if you’d like me to). The ending of the contest has been delayed a few times due to the fact that the book itself has been delayed but now I have set a date for when I will draw a winner and that is Sunday April 15.

To enter I want you to send in a photo of yourself and Lilja’s Library. Lilja’s Library you might ask? Yes, take a photo of yourself and Lilja’s Library in some form. It could be you in front of the computer (where you can see Lilja’s Library), it could be a photo of you and my book, it could be a photo of you and your tattoo of Marv (if anyone has one), or any other form of Lilja’s Library. Draw Marv and pose with him, read the site on your phone and take a photo of yourself doing it…your imagination is the limit. The rule is that Lilja’s Library and you need to be in the photo (and not just a toe or a finger, your face at least). That’s it. Not to hard, right?

I will then draw the photo I like the best (what I like is for me to know and you to find out) as the winner. If you have already sent a photo and think: "darn I should have been more creative", then just send another one. As mentioned the prize is a copy of Shining in the Dark: Celebrating Twenty Years of Lilja’s Library.

You all know about Shining in the Dark by now. The anthology created to celebrate the 20 anniversary of Lilja’s Library. Now you have a chance to be part of its Swedish edition; Varsel i Mörkret!

The Stand As A 10-Hour TV Show

This short comment about The Stand from The Tracking Board has led to speculations about the book being done as a 10-hour TV show on CBS All Access. So far I would call this speculations. I’d love to see The Stand as a 10-hour TV show but there are better stations than CBS to do it…in my opinion. I guess we’ll see…

While some industry insiders have privately questioned what the future holds for Boone after New Mutants, with some faintly alluding to what happened to Josh Trank after Fantastic Four flopped, I doubt the film will reflect poorly on him, given the arduous development process. Besides, Boone has a full plate once he wraps New Mutants. He’s still attached to direct an adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand, which we hear is coming together as a ten-hour limited series at CBS All Access. Despite a full plate, those close to the director say he’s committed to seeing his vision for New Mutants through to the end, though it’s been frustrating for members of his cast and crew to read so much inaccurate speculation online.

New Movie Based On The Tommyknockers

Variety reports that a new movie based on The Tommyknockers is in the making.

Stephen King’s “The Tommyknockers” is being developed as a movie by producers James Wan and Roy Lee.

Wan, who’s directing “Aquaman” and produces “The Conjuring” franchise, will produce through his Atomic Monster company. Lee, whose credits include “It,” the Lego movies, and “The Departed,” will produce through Vertigo Entertainment. The duo has teamed up with Larry Sanitsky, who executive produced the 1993 ABC miniseries adaptation of “The Tommyknockers,” starring Jimmy Smits and Marg Helgenberger.

The producers began shopping the package to studios through Paradigm on Thursday.

Longer Version Of The Shining

Bloody Disgusting reports that there is a longer version of The Shining that's not been released. And if you happen to have $12,000 that you don't need you can own the jacket Jack Nicholson used throughout the film.

“Long cut of the original film The Shining containing the scene in which Wendy, played by Shelley Alexis Duvall, carries Danny, played by little Danny Lloyd. These cuts, given by Kubrick to D’Alessandro, are particularly rare because the director notoriously burned all the leftovers at the conclusion of the editing.”

Morgan Freeman presenting Award To King

Morgan Freeman, star in The Shawshank Redemption, will present an award to King at the PEN America Literary Gala. King will receive the PEN America Literary Service Award at the bash at the American Museum of Natural History on May 22.

Pet Sematary Remake Shooting In May

According to Omega Underground a remake of Pet Sematary will start shooting in May in Toronto.

In October, Variety revealed that the studio had hired Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyerto direct the horror film. Jeff Buhler and David Kajganichare penning the script based on the novel by King.

I asked David about it and he didn’t think they were using his script but didn’t know for sure.

To me it seems a bit early to start filming in May when there hasn’t been any casting news at all but we’ll see.

Update On The US Edition Of Shining in the Dark

Here is an update from Cemetary Dance on the US edition of Shining in the Dark:

The books are finished at the printer, but we discovered a major problem when they sent us the final approval copies: the printer completely missed printing and tipping in the interior artwork drawn by Erin S Wells. It's too late for them to fix this, so instead we¹ve created an exclusive chapbook of the artwork that will ship with your book. We think they'll make this special edition even more special!

Molly: The Inspiration To A Not-Yet-Published Story

Apparently Molly has been the inspiration to one (not-yet-published) story about a dog that’s terrified of alligators.

We ask if Molly functions as a muse for the author. “She’s a-MUSEing. But she’s a pain in the ass when I’m writing. She wants to go out and play ball!” Still, Molly has inspired at least one (not-yet-published) Stephen King story about a dog that’s terrified of alligators.



The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ran an ad during its own event to promote the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, a new museum dedicated to the art and science of movies that’s slated to open on Wilshire and Fairfax in Los Angeles in 2019.

IT Star Joins Castle Rock

IT star Chosen Jacobs joins the cast of Castle Rock.

The young actor will star as Wendell Deaver, the son of Henry Deaver, played by André Holland. His character has been described as "a death row attorney with a unique and complicated history in the town."

The Bone Church To Be Filmed

King’s poem The Bone Church will be turned into a TV series.

Chris Long and David Ayer’s Cedar Park Entertainment has acquired Stephen King’s The Bone Church and will develop it as a TV series. Cedar Park will be the studio for the project as well. The Bone Church is a narrative poem that King wrote in the 1960s. He later revised it and the poem was published as part of a King anthology, The Bazaar of Bad Dreams. In it, an adventurer organizes an expedition deep into a vast jungle land to locate the mythic Bone Church. They discover a secret not meant for the eyes of strangers. Only three of the 32 travelers escaped with their lives in a tale narrated by one of the survivors, who tells stories from a bar stool to patrons who’ll buy him drinks.

As part of the effort, Amazon made a mega deal for a Lord Of the Rings TV series and is developing a slew of high-profile titles, including The Dark Tower, Wheel of Time, Ringworld, Lazarus and Snow Crash.

Virginia Kull Cast In Mr Mercedes

Virginia Kull has been cast in Mr Mercedes.

Virginia Kull is set for a recurring role in Season 2 of AT&T Audience Network’s breakout series Mr. Mercedes. Kull will play Sadie McDonald, a nurse on the neurology ward— known as the “Brain Bucket” — at Mercy General Hospital. An epileptic who has recently gone off her medication, she’s prone to occasional microscopic seizures which pull her away from the task at hand. Her most famous patient is Brady Hartsfield, the infamous Mercedes killer.

ABOUT THE EDITION
The Signed Limited Edition of Misery is published in three states: An Artist Gift edition, a Numbered edition and a Lettered edition. All three oversized editions measure 7.5” x 10.5”, and feature eight new full-color illustrations by Rick Berry, whose critically acclaimed work includes the Donald M. Grant editions of The Talisman and Black House by Stephen King and Peter Straub

ARTIST GIFT EDITION
Signed by Rick Berry, the slipcased Artist Gift edition features a dust jacket with stunning wrap-around artwork by Berry. It is a smyth-sewn binding with full imperial cloth, two-hits stamping on front and spine, and is offset printed on Mohawk Superfine Eggshell paper. The gift edition will be highly limited for a Stephen King book, and is the only edition of the three with the wrap-around dust jacket art.

NUMBERED EDITION
The Numbered edition is limited to 200 copies, and is signed by Stephen King and Rick Berry. The first 185 copies are for sale and numbered in black. The remaining 15 copies are numbered in red and reserved for private distribution. It is a full Japanese cloth, smyth-sewn binding featuring a blind stamped front cover, and a leather spine label stamped in 22K gold leaf. The edition is printed letterpress on Cranes Lettra Pearl White cotton paper, and housed in a custom clamshell box.

LETTERED EDITION
The Lettered edition is limited to 26 copies for sale lettered A-Z, and is signed by Stephen King and Rick Berry. It is printed letterpress on moldmade Arches wove paper with a deckled fore edge, and handbound in full crimson goatskin leather. Endpapers are marbled, and made exclusively for this edition. The binding is sewn and rounded with a hollow back designed to prevent sagging fo the page block.

The edition includes an original frontispiece print pulled from a wood engraving by renowned illustrator and designer Barry Moser. The print is limited to 26 copies and is signed by Barry Moser. The title is made using six original Royal glass typewriter keys which are inset into the cover, and the letter designation is a Royal key inset into the lower back cover.

The book is housed in a handmade walnut wood box designed to resemble an original Royal Model 10 packing crate. The case is laser engraved, and features a black suede-lined book bed.
