Castle Rock Season 2 Based On Misery

Looks like the second season of Castle Rock will be based on Misery. A very interesting and unexpected decision.

The Hollywood Reporter report that Lizzy Caplan, Tim Robbins, Elsie Fisher, Garrett Hedlund, Barkhad Abdi, Yusra Warsama and Matthew Alan has been cast.

Season two will explore a feud between warring clans that comes to a boil when budding psychopath Annie Wilkes, King's nurse from hell, gets waylaid in Castle Rock.

Tim Robbins will play Reginald "Pop" Merrill, the famed patriarch of King's iconic crime family who is dying of cancer and at a reckoning with his family. Garrett Hedlund will play John "Ace" Merrill, the town of Castle Rock's legendary bully who is taking over his uncle Po's business and threatening a fragile peace with nearby Jerusalem's Lot. Matthew Alan will portray Chris Merrill, Pop's nephew and Ace's brother who struggles to keep peace between the Merrills and the Somali community.

Yusra Warsama will play Dr. Nadia Omar, the Harvard-trained Somali medical director of a rural hospital in Jerusalem's Lot whose rational and scientific mind will be put to the test. Barkhad Abdi will play Abdi Omar, Nadia's tough older brother who leads the charge to build a Somali community center that will deepen the roots of his people in Maine.

Elsie Fisher will play Joy, Annie's homeschooled teenage daughter who is starting to have questions about her mother's sanity. Lizzy Caplan takes on Kathy Bates' iconic Misery role of Annie Wilkes, a nurse and superfan battling to overcome mental health issues in Castle Rock.

Join 826 Boston for the never-boring, always story-worthy Night of 1,000 Stories gala. Special guest Stephen King will be joined by 826 Boston students for an evening of showcases and surprises. Cocktail hour begins at 5:30 PM, followed by an action-packed dinner at 7:00 PM. Tickets start at $500. All of the funds raised at the event will support 826 Boston's free youth writing and publishing programs. The event will start at 5:30 PM with a cocktail reception; formal program starts at 7:00 PM. A limited number of individual tickets are available for purchase online.

The Talisman Has Found It’s Director

Collider reports the The Talisman has found it’s director:

Collider has exclusively learned that Mike Barker, who has directed numerous episodes of Hulu’s Emmy-winning series The Handmaid’s Tale, is set to direct a big-screen adaptation of King and Peter Straub‘s bestselling 1984 fantasy novel The Talisman for Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Partners and The Kennedy/Marshall Company.

Frank Marshall will produce on behalf of Kennedy/Marshall, while former Amblin CEO Michael Wright will serve as an executive producer on The Talisman, which will be adapted by veteran genre scribe Chris Sparling (Buried).

Dark Tower Didn't Ripp Off Time-Traveling Comic

Judge Schlesinger confirms what the rest of us have known all along.

A Florida federal judge on Friday dismissed a suit claiming Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower” ripped off the time-traveling comic book series “The Rook,” ruling that the protected elements of the two works are dissimilar and that no reasonable jury could conclude King infringed the comic's copyrights.

U.S. District Judge Harvey Schlesinger granted summary judgment in favor of King after finding that even though the two series feature adventure-seeking protagonists who don Western garb and engage in time travel, they are far more different in substance.

The judge said the plaintiff, the nephew of now-deceased comic book writer William B. DuBay, “analyzes the characters at such a high level of abstraction and generality that it does not truly reflect the characters or their shared traits.”

DuBay’s nephew, Benjamin DuBay, claims in his suit launched in March 2017 that King’s eight-book fantasy series “The Dark Tower” featuring protagonist Roland Deschain infringes the copyrights to "The Rook," which features a hero called Restin Dane. Since the character first appeared in Warren Publishing Co.’s horror comic book magazine in 1977, more than 5 million copies of magazines that follow the character The Rook have been published in five different languages, according to the suit.

DuBay claims King was a “super fan” of William DuBay and admitted to copying his character in his memoir, “On Writing.” Since then, King has made more than $500 million off his Deschain character and “The Dark Tower” series, which he published between 1998 and 2004, according to the complaint.

But Judge Schlesinger said that while Roland Deschain and Restin Dane are both adventurers, they have little else in common.

Hear King's Interview With Eli Roth

Last year AMC aired Eli Roth’s History of Horror in seven parts. Each episode featured interviews with many of the top names in horror. Today Shudder announced that the complete interviews Roth conducted for the series (not yet heard) will be released as part of Eli Roth’s History of Horror: Uncut podcast.

In twelve episodes we'll get hours of never-before-heard, candid conversations between Roth and Stephen King, Edgar Wright, Quentin Tarantino, Diablo Cody, Bryan Fuller, Catherine Hardwicke, Victor LaValle, Tippi Hedren, Bruce Campbell, Josh Hartnett, Greg Nicotero and Rob Zombie.

All episodes of the podcast will be made available on Shudder on Friday, February 22, exclusively for its members. Episode 1, featuring Roth’s complete conversation with Stephen King, will be made available the same day to non-members on Apple Podcasts and other platforms, where subsequent episodes will be released twice-weekly on Mondays and Fridays.

Mr Mercedes Season 3 Casting

Seems like casting for season 3 of Mr Mercedes is happening right now.

Gabriel Ebert (Ricki and the Flash) and Rarmian Newton (Rise) are set as series regulars and Glynn Turman (How To Get Away With Murder) will recur on the upcoming third season of AT&T Audience Network’s critically praised drama series Mr. Mercedes, from Sonar Entertainment. Production on the Stephen King adaptation is underway in Charleston, South Carolina.


Ebert will play Morris Bellamy, intelligent, well-educated if not middle class, a volatile and charismatic wolf in sheep’s clothing. When he was younger he had ambitions of becoming a famous writer but ended up with a much less exciting life in Ohio.

Newton plays Peter Saubers, 16, smart and personable, he’s a junior in high school and on the college track. From a seemingly happy home, but that picturesque Midwestern life was derailed when his father was disabled during the Mr. Mercedes massacre.

Turman recurs as Judge Bernard Raines, the no-nonsense judge presiding over Lou Linklatter’s murder trial, he suffers no fools and takes no prisoners. He is none too pleased with the lawyers working on this case who seem hell bent for trial.

Deadline reports that Andrew Bernstein is set to direct several episodes of The Outsider.

EXCLUSIVE: Andrew Bernstein (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan) has been tapped to direct several episodes and serve as executive producer on HBO’s supernatural drama series The Outsider, based on Stephen King’s bestselling novel, with Ben Mendelsohn set to star and produce. The project hails from The Night Of co-creator/executive producer Richard Price, director-producer Jack Bender (Mr. Mercedes) Jason Bateman’s Aggregate Films, Temple Hill Entertainment and MRC.

This press release was sent out by Shudder last week and tells us that work has begun on the TV show Creepshow. It's unclear though why it says "as-yet unannounced Stephen King story" when it was earlier reported that it's Survivor Type they're adapting.


Press Release: Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for thriller, suspense and horror, announced today that production has begun on its first long-form original TV series, Creepshow, in Atlanta, GA. Executive produced by The Walking Dead’s Greg Nicotero, the horror series is based on the iconic 1982 anthology film written by Stephen King and directed by George A. Romero.

The six-episode season will feature an adaptation of an as-yet unannounced Stephen King story, as well as segments based on stories by other award-winning and acclaimed horror writers, including:

● “By the Silvery Waters of Lake Champlain” by Joe Hill (NOS4A2)
● “House of the Head” by Josh Malerman (Bird Box)
● “The Companion” by Joe Lansdale (The Bottoms)

Mile 81 King's Next Story To Be Filmed

Mile 81 is being filmed later this year.

Alistair Legrand (Clinical) has been set to direct supernatural horror thriller Mile 81, based on the 2011 novella by Stephen King. Producer is Ross M. Dinerstein, who recently produced Netflix’s King adaptation 1922 and the streaming service’s John Grisham inspired docuseries The Innocent Man. Paradigm is handling sales, and introducing the project at the European Film Market in Berlin.

Script comes from Legrand and Luke Harvis (The Diabolical). Production is planned for fall 2019 with casting discussions underway.

Dolores Claiborne: The Opera

The opera version of Dolores Claiborne will be performed in February.

Boston University’s Opera Institute performs the chamber version of Tobias Picker’s Dolores Claiborne, conducted by William Lumpkin, on FEBRUARY 21-24, 2019.

Picker notes, “Dolores Claiborne is a character destined for the operatic stage – passionate, desperate, trapped. She will do anything to save the daughter who despises her. Pushed to the extreme edge of life, she does what she has to, fearless and forsaken.”

Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King, DOLORES CLAIBORNE was hailed in its premiere production at the SAN FRANCISCO OPERA as “A BRILLIANT MUSICAL INCARNATION” and “A MOMENTOUS ADDITION TO THE EXPANDING CANON OF AMERICAN OPERA” (Huffington Post). The new chamber version was jointly commissioned by New York City Opera and the Opera Institute at Boston University.

Update: Dark Tower TV Series

Here is an update about the Dark Tower TV series from Amazon. The news comes from ThatHashtagShow.com which I'm not that familiar with so...but I'm working on getting it confirmed. Stay tuned.

Amazon Studios is set to move ahead with production on their adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower books. The series, which will be comprised of 13 one-hour episodes, will be executive produced by a team of huge names led by Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead), Akiva Goldsman (Titans, Star Trek: Discovery) and King.

Amazon Studios has begun looking to assemble a cast ahead of a mid-April start of production in Croatia, where the series is expected to film until late-June. It appears that part of the delay may have been, in part, due to efforts to distance the series from the 2017 film adaptation which was received poorly by fans and critics. The series will of course focus on Roland Deschain, a young boy from a long line of “gunslingers”, and his “ka-tet” comprised of Cuthbert Allgood, Alain Johns, Ileen Ritter and Jamie De Curry in addition to his girlfriend, Susan Delgado. The studio is currently looking at actors and actresses, ages 16-18 for all the roles listed above.

Marten Broadcloak will serve as the series antagonist and his affair with Roland’s mother, Gabrielle, will factor heavily into the plot. Her affair incites Roland to pick up his guns in a search for Broadcloak and sets his father, Steven, on a mission to find him. At this time, no offers have been made to talent, but the cast should begin to assemble quickly.

King Celebrated At McDonald's

When King found out Paul Monash had optioned Carrie the family celebrated by going out to McDonald’s.

King was first named-checked in Variety in summer 1974 when Hollywood producer Paul Monash obtained the film rights to King’s first published novel, “Carrie,” which had just hit bookstores only weeks earlier. While a modest seller in hardback, in paperback, “Carrie” became the first of King’s many million-sellers.

New Hill Collection Will Contain Collaborations

Joe Hill will release a new short story collection entitled Full Throttle in the fall (October 29). The book will be 384 pages and feature eleven short stories. Some of them new and some previously published elsewhere.

The book will include Hill’s two collaborations with his father Stephen King; Full Throttle and In The Tall Grass. In The Tall Grass has been filmed and will probably premiere later this year while Full Throttle was reported to be getting a big-screen treatment but nothing else has surfaced about that since it was first reported.

The Doctor Comes Earliar Than Expected

Doctor Sleep was originally supposed to be released in January 2020 but has now been moved up to November 8th, 2019. This comes just days after that Mike Flanagan tweeted that he’s editing the movie right now. No mention about a trailer of photos from the movie but hopefully we’ll see something soon.

Confirmation: The Stand As A 10-Hour TV Show

It is now confirmed that CBS All Access has ordered 10 episodes of The Stand, as a limited event. Josh Boone and Ben Cavell penned the adaptation, and Boone will direct. They will also be executive producers with Roy Lee, Jimmy Miller and Richard P. Rubinstein. Will Weiske and Miri Yoon will serve as co-executive producers and Owen King will produce. CBS TV Studios is the studio.

“I’m excited and so very pleased that The Stand is going to have a new life on this exciting new platform,” said King. “The people involved are men and women who know exactly what they’re doing; the scripts are dynamite. The result bids to be something memorable and thrilling. I believe it will take viewers away to a world they hope will never happen.”

No release date has been mentioned yet.

The Rock Bottom Remainders Will Rise Again

King will play a concert at First Avenue with Amy Tan, Mary Karr, humorist Dave Barry and sportswriter Mitch Albom.

The Rock Bottom Remainders is a fluid band, its members changing depending on who is in town, but it’s anchored by King, Tan and Karr, as well as humorist Dave Barry and sportswriter Mitch Albom, all of whom will be in Minneapolis for the festival.

The festival takes place May 11-12 in downtown Minneapolis.

Survivor Type Filmed For Creepshow

Bloody Disgusting reports that one of the stories included in the upcoming Creepshow TV serie will be King's Survivor Type.

Production is getting underway in Atlanta, Georgia on Shudder’s Creepshow revival, which will see effects master Greg Nicotero directing a handful of episodes. The first we have information on is titled “Survivor Type”.

Here is an interview with Mike Flanagan done by Jason Sechrest.

I don’t know if I was ever as nervous as I was sending that first cut to Steve. He was the first person outside of my editorial department who got to see the film, and I was terrified about what he’d think. He was my hero, and this particular movie was a high-wire act without a net. He loved the film, and sent me a long email about his thoughts. I’m not lying when I tell you that I printed it and framed it. It’s still hanging in my office.
