Interesting article from WECT.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Crews with Under the Dome continue filming in the Wilmington area Tuesday.

Don't be alarmed if you hear gunfire near Church Street, some of the scenes could include possible fake gun fire.

According to film permits, the scene involves a character breaking into a house while another actor comes out of the home with a fake rifle to prevent the crime.

They will be working on the scene until 11:00 Tuesday night.

The locally-filmed mini-series is based on a Stephen King novel with the same title.

Under the Dome is about a fictitious town called Chester's Mill that finds itself surrounded by a mysterious barrier that won't allow people to travel outside of it.

The series will air on CBS in June.

Hill on Under the Dome

Posted: May 11, 2013, 05:50
_
Remeber my post about Joe Hill seeing the pilot of Under the Dome? Well, here is a comment on that from the people behind Under the Dome:

Well, we have received our first official review of the Under the Dome pilot…and it comes from none other than author Stephen King ‘s son, author Joe Hill. This means, A. the pilot is actually done, or at least in a fine cut at this point, B. Stephen King does not dislike it enough to not allow his son to see it, and C. Joe Hill likes to go public with nearly everything he thinks. The Under the Dome pilot does not air on CBS until June 24th, so it is not uncommon for a pilot to be finished this long before a premiere date. Pus, CBS gave an order to make Under the Dome a straight-to-series type of series. This means, that they decided to go forward with 13 episodes without even seeing a pilot. This used to never happen, especially. when shows like Michael Bay’s The Last Boat get a order and they decide to wait a full calendar year between shooting the pilot and the first regular episode. However, these days, anything is possible in television, even broadcast television. Of course, comparing it to Lost is a little unimaginative for a best-selling author, but I am sure he is not allowed to say much more. Conjuring up memories of Lost is probably what the Under the Dome producers want him to do anyway. Whatever works for ratings, I guess.

New ending and a second season ?

Posted: May 7, 2013, 09:06
_
This interesting article from zap2it asks some very interesting questions.

1. What is this new ending...
2. What happens if there is a second season?
3. If there isn't a second season, will we get a satisfying ending?

"Under the Dome" is coming to CBS this summer, the story of a small town that suddenly finds itself encased in a giant dome. Creator Brian K. Vaughn teases the outline of the show for SFX, which he says will have three distinct sections.

"The first section is fate. The second section is fear. And the third section is fascism. I won't say who is the fascist or what exactly that means, but I think you get the sense that things are going to go wrong very quickly under the dome, and we're going to need an iron fist keeping order," says Vaughn.

He also reassures fans that people who have read the book won't necessarily know exactly what's coming.

"There's sort of a perhaps slightly different explanation for the dome," says Vaughn. "I nervously pitched Stephen King what a different version of the ending might be ... He said, 'I wish I'd thought of that.'"

"Which, I suspect, is just Stephen being kind," laughs Vaughn. "But he's been great."

Neal Baer, the showrunner, adds that the series can be seen as a parable for the times we're living in.

He tells Huff Post Live, "What does it mean for your town when you start to run low on food, fuel, medicine? What happens when the dome gets a little polluted when you're burning stuff for heat? It's not a big step to think about what that means for us, running low on fuel, running low on water, what about pollution."

"We can do a show that touches on these issues -- that's why we call it a parable for our time without being preachy or pedantic."

It all leaves us wondering -- what does a Season 2 look like? That's a little cart-before-the-horse, but CBS is not running "Under the Dome" as a miniseries, meant to only air this summer.

If it is successful, the show will be renewed for a second season. We wonder what happens then -- will there be more story to tell? And if it doesn't get renewed, will Season 1 wrap up the story in a satisfying way?

"Under the Dome" premieres Monday, June 24 on CBS.

“At a certain point, working on NOS4A2, I thought, maybe I’d like to have fun with it,” says Hill. “Instead of shying away from it and avoiding it like a dangerous infection, maybe it would be fun to goof on Stephen King a bit.”

A Good Marriage to filming this month

Posted: May 3, 2013, 10:42
_
The Movie version of King's A Good Marriage begins filming this month. Here is an update from Dread Central:

It's been nearly a year since there was anything to talk about regarding the latest Stephen King adaptation heading our way, A Good Marriage, but word has come that production is getting under way at the end of May in Sleepy Hollow, NY, with a 15-day shoot scheduled at a local home.

Joan Allen will star in the adaptation of the Stephen King novella, which was featured in Full Dark No Stars. Peter Askin, who directed the 2007 documentary about the Hollywood Blacklist and McCarthyism titled Trumbo, is on board to helm the thriller and is producing with his Reno Productions partner Will Battersby.

King’s story centers on a woman named Darcy who discovers the sinister and gruesome double life that her husband of 25 years and father of their two children has been living. She must now decide how far she is willing to go to maintain the marriage. King wrote the screenplay for the movie, which is being financed by independent equity. Paradigm is handling domestic rights, while Atlas International is selling foreign rights.

Tate Taylor to visit Joyland

It's happened before and now it's happened again. A book by King has been sold to Hollywood before it's even released. It happened to The Talisman and now it's happened to Joyland. Let's just hope this one won’t get stuck in Development Hell like The Talisman...

Deadline reports that Tate Taylor, who launched his writing and directing career by getting the option on The Help before author Kathryn Stockett was done writing it, has gotten himself on the ground floor of another sure-fire bestseller. Taylor has been granted an option by Stephen King to adapt and direct Joyland, the King novel that will be published in June. Taylor will adapt to direct, and John Norris will produce through his Wyolah Films banner. Taylor will also produce.

The Dark Tower on Netflix?

In an interview with Netflix’s Chief Content Office, Ted Sarandos, the question about The Dark Tower came up. No confirmation but not a denial either...

Arrested Development creator Ron Howard has also been circling Stephen King’s The Dark Tower – any chance Netflix could pick it up?

I spoke to Ron about it, actually. The last time we talked about it the thing was being kicked about HBO – but it’s no longer there. Once Arrested Development gets through we’ll keep talking about it.

What do you think? Can Netflix pull it off?

Simpsons and Under the Dome

Simpsons in Under the Dome

Now CBS’ upcoming series adaptation of King’s Under the Dome is going to give the Fox animated hit a shout-out in return.

The backstory: King originally began work on his sprawling eco-parable bestseller in 1976, then shelved the project for a couple decades before picking it up again and ultimately publishing the novel in 2009. In the meantime, 20th Century Fox released The Simpsons Movie in 2007 with a broadly comic take on the same concept. Fox’s series The Simpsons then mocked the coincidence in a 2010 episode where Monty Burns begins to seal Springfield with a giant dome while brandishing a copy of King’s book before realizing this has already been done once before.

Now the upcoming series version of Under the Dome will throw a reference back to The Simpsons in its third episode. “We do make a reference to The Simpsons Movie,” showrunner Neal Baer told EW. “We have a ‘recharge party’ in episode 3 and the kids are watching it.”

There won’t be actual footage of the film in the scene, but it’s definitely in the script. “We make a verbal reference,” Baer teases.

Under the Dome descends on CBS on June 24.

A Good Marriage in Hollow

The movie version of A Good Marriage is being filmed in Hollow.

King's novella, adapted into a screenplay by the author and to be turned into a movie by Will Battersby and Peter Askin, is a little darker than that, with a longterm "good" marriage crumbling as the wife (to be played by Joan Allen) discovers her husband may be a serial killer.

J.J. Abrams to put 11/22/63 on TV?

Posted: April 28, 2013, 00:07

King's novel 11/22/63 may become a TV series with J.J. Abrams as an executive producer several sources reports on the Internet. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company and Warner Bros. TV are in talks to adapt the novel about a teacher who travels back in time and tries to prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

This will probably be a TV series or miniseries, likely for cable.

Hard Listening is an Interactive eBook about the rockband Rock Bottom Remainders. I have also gotten confirmation from the publisher that it will also contain a new short story by King (no title yet) that hasn’t been published else ware. In fact, he wrote it just two months ago.

SYNOPSIS
Over 350M books sold. 40 New York Times #1 Bestsellers. One lousy band.

In 1992, a cadre of the world’s bestselling authors formed a rock band. Twenty years later, they’re hanging up their guitar picks, drumsticks and leather whips, but not without a look back on two decades of friendship, love, writing, and the redemptive power of rock’n’roll.

Hard Listening is a voyeuristic view into the private lives of your favorite authors, combining essays, fiction, candid email conversations, Q&As, and interactive parlor games. See Stephen King, Scott Turow, Amy Tan, Dave and Sam Barry, Roy Blount Jr., Mitch Albom, James McBride, Ridley Pearson, Matt Groening, Greg Iles, and rock legend Roger McGuinn at their most unguarded.

So, to satisfy my need to talk about everything I find interesting I have created a Facebook group called “Lilja says…” where I comment on what I think you should check out and what you should stay away from and I’d love to hear your comments on the stuff I post there.
