A Good Marriage in October

Variety reports that A Good Marriage will premier in early October.

Screen Media Films has acquired North American rights to thriller “A Good Marriage,” adapted from Stephen King’s short story from the collection “Full Dark, No Stars.”

King wrote the screenplay, and Peter Askin directed the film, starring Joan Allen, Anthony LaPaglia, Kristen Connolly and Stephen Lang. Screen Media plans to distribute the film in early October — the start of the Halloween season — with a nationwide theatrical release accompanied by a day-and-date VOD platform release.

LaPaglia and Allen portray a married couple, with the wife discovering the horrifying stranger inside her husband while he’s away on a business trip — ending a good marriage.

“I’m delighted that ‘A Good Marriage’ is going to be available to the moviegoing public very soon, and hope we can scare the hell out of millions of people,” King said. “To me, that’s always an exciting prospect.”

The Stand To Be A Three-Hour, R-Rated, Movie

Here is a quote from an interview with Josh Boone in Vulture:

So I’m a big Stephen King fan, and I know you’re a gigantic Stephen King fan, so I have to ask about The Stand. You’re directing it. What can you tell me about it?

We’re gonna do one three-hour, R-rated version with an amazing A-list cast across the board. Every single one of those characters will be somebody you recognize and somebody you relate to. And it’s gonna be awesome. I’m really excited. It’s the most exciting thing I’ve ever got to do in my entire life. If 12-year-old me had ever known that one day I’d be doing this, to even just go back and look at that kid, I’d be like, Keep doing what you’re doing! It’s just crazy. I’ve met so many actors over the years, and like, when I met Stephen King, I hugged him with tears in my eyes. He meant that much to me when I was young. I still say everything I learned about writing I learned from Stephen King. I don’t read screenplays. I don’t read screenplay how-to books. It’s always just, establish the character. Establish the character.

Brian K Vaughan has left Under the Dome

Brian K Vaughan has stepped down as executive producer/writer for Under the Dome a few months ago, something that seems to have gone unnoticed until now... In an interview with Bleeding Cool Brian had this to say.

RJ: Under The Dome is coming back… what’s your involvement with that show, now? And are you seeking similar roles in other series in the future?

BKV: Yeah, I don’t think this has been reported anywhere, but I actually left my position at Under The Dome a few months ago. It was the great thrill of my life to help adapt one of the best book’s ever from my all-time hero, but I’ve got two very young kids at home who I never got to see last season, so I’m enormously grateful to CBS and Amblin for letting me out of my contract a little early. I’m already missing the cast and crew, but the show remains in the excellent hands of our veteran showrunner Neal Baer, and we were lucky enough to hire some heavy hitting new writers for this season, including none other than Mr. King himself. His first episode is easily the best of the series so far, and helps set the tone for a fucking crazy new direction, so I look forward to getting to watch as a fan with everyone else.

Me Getting Mr Mercedes

I would like to try something. This week (Tuesday June 3rd to be exact) King’s new book Mr. Mercedes is released. Some of you will probably get it on Monday and some on Tuesday, maybe some on Wednesday or Thursday. Either way, it’s a big thing when a new King book is released and I’d like to acknowledge that. So, what I’d like you to do is this.

Send me a photo of when you get your copy. No matter if you get it in a store, in the mail or from a friend or from the library (hopefully you’re only loaning it if that’s the case). Take a photo of you and the book (no matter were in the world you are or what edition you get) and then I’ll publish the photos here on Lilja’s Library. It will be fun to see everyone who got a copy. If you want, please include your name and location and I’ll post that as well. It’s also OK to post the photo on Lilja’s Library’s facebook wall and I’ll get it from there if you prefer that.

Please note though that this is not a contest, it’s just for fun. Imagine if we could get a couple of hundred photos? How cool would that be? Who knows maybe even King would check that out… So, spread the word and send the photo. I’ll even go first!

Check out all the entries here

King's Characters Introduce Mr Mercedes

Thursday 29 May 2014, marks the official countdown to publication for No. 1 bestselling writer Stephen King’s new novel, MR MERCEDES, which publishes on 3 June 2014, and the launch of an innovative digital content campaign. Hodder & Stoughton publishers have worked with the agency The Upside, which has devised a creative strategy highlighting the fabulous breadth of Stephen King's storytelling. The idea is simple: have some of King’s classic characters come to life to introduce his new book.

Five mini animations of 15” have been created, each featuring a different character from one of King’s celebrated books. Each will reveal more about Mr Mercedes, the eponymous character in King’s memorable new novel. The videos will be released via facebook.com/StephenKingBooks, in the five days leading up to the publication.

On publication day, 3 June 2014, the animations will be edited and released as one long introduction to the novel, with a fresh scene revealing Mr Mercedes himself to readers.

Check out Danny from The Shining and Carrie from Carrie here.

The 5th part of the contest is done and the 6th AND LAST is upon us. As with last week I want to thank you all for your fun photos. This week, like the previous one a lot of you put a lot of effort in your photos and that is good. The final winners will be picked by their photos so it’s worth putting some extra into it.

Those of you that didn’t win or didn’t send it a photo…do it this week. Don’t postpone it any longer, this is the last week

The right answer this time was Carrie. The number 40 because the book turns 40 this year and Girl because Carrie is a girl.

This time it’s a new riddle and it’s the same thing you need to do. Decide what book I’m looking for and take a photo of yourself with that book and send it to me. The question and more info can be found here.

The 10 entries drawn from the fifth question were sent it by the following people (please make sure you include your name):

The fifth 10 entries:
Bob Irland
Danielle Duffield
Malina Gillooly
James Parker
Henry Gershman
Jessica Rushing
Ron Breznay
Ann Richardson
Luca Gnuva
Hans von Wirth

You 10 don’t need to enter again, you are already in the drawing for the grand prize (you can though just for the fun of it if you want though).

Alfonso Cuarón Offered The Overlook Hotel

Schmoe Knows report that Alfonso Cuarón has been offered to do a prequel to The Shining called The Overlook Hotel. Script is done by former The Walking Dead show runner Glen Mazzara.

But a HOT SCOOP came across my desk today and it’s VERY interesting. After confirming its validity through two close sources with knowledge of the project, it appears Alfonso Cuarón has been offered the exclusive right to say yes or no to direct THE OVERLOOK HOTEL at WB; a prequel to THE SHINING.

IT Moves

Posted: May 22, 2014, 09:09
_
Looks like IT is moving from Warner to New Line. Here is what The Hollywood Reporter wrote about it.

The long road to re-adapt Stephen King's novel It has taken another turn.

Warner Bros. has been developing a big-screen take for five years, and in 2012 it hired Cary Fukunaga to direct two films produced by Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg.

But just as Fukunaga is coming off HBO's True Detective, the project is leaving Warners -- sort of.

In a rare move, It is shifting to the studio's New Line division. Insiders say that as New Line prepares for a June move from West Hollywood to Warners' Burbank lot, the siblings are drawing clearer distinctions about the types of movies they make.

And It is a horror play. The story follows a group of kids called the Losers Club who defeat a creature called It. Years later, the creature returns and the club, now adults, have to band together again even though they have no memory of the first battle.

The plan is for the first movie to tell the kids’ story and the second movie to focus on the adults.

It will be overseen by the division's Walter Hamada and Dave Neustadter, along with Warners vp production Niija Kuykendall, who will also stay involved with the project.

Word About Season 2 of Under the Dome

Check out some tweets about season 2 of Under the Dome.

"We're way past the book," Baer explained. "The book is about the first week and we're already two weeks in. This season will be going two more weeks. If we lasted 15 years, that would only be a year under the dome. It's certainly possible to keep going. We have so many stories to tell."
- Neal Baer

Under the Dome Press Day

Posted: May 20, 2014, 11:07
_
Loads of news about season 2 of Under the Dome is coming out from the CBS Summer Press Day. Here is a report from Deadline:

In CBS‘ Summer Junket Day (“Summer is the new Fall”, said CBS Productions Television Studios president David Stapf to kick things off), Under The Dome EP Neal Baer talked about the second season re-boot for the Stephen King series which, Stapf reminded reporters, was the most watched new drama series of the wrapping TV season, besting NBC’s The Blacklist.

Though the second season will move past King’s book, storyline-wise, King is giving it his blessing by writing the first episode and making a cameo, Baer said. “So he’s certifying” it.

In a trailer for that first, King-written episode, The Dome becomes magnetic, sending all the town’s metal appliances, vehicles, etc. careening across the landscape. This doesn’t end well for at least one of the show’s characters.

“What I love about Stephen King’s way of seeing the world is that the ordinary becomes extraordinary. The barbeque is only the beginning. In that episode, things we trust become fearful,” Baer said.

“This is about ecological disaster pending — that magnetism has caused many things to happen,” Baer said. He hinted at “biblical problems of pestilence and bloody rain, because characters haven’t been the stewards they should be, of protecting the land and each other. What is the message The Dome is trying to teach us?”

This season of the series will include a digital-only character who is able to communicate with characters trapped in the dome, Baer said, which he explained was part of an effort to “reach out to particularly our young audience and embrace this ‘transmedia’.” “Maybe someone might possibly get out and someone might get in as well this year,” he added.

King has read every script for the second season, Baer said. “He has great ideas. I just love the fact that refrigerators and stoves become our enemies…[King]has this wonderment quality that is infectious.”

Brett Cullen In Multiple Episodes

Posted: May 20, 2014, 09:04

Spoiler TV report that Brett Cullen will be in multiple episodes during season 2.

Lost alum Brett Cullen has landed a multi-episode arc as Don Barbara, the father of Mike Vogel's Barbie, TVGuide.com has learned.

The smooth, charming and powerful patriarch of the Barbara clan, Don runs a multi-national corporation. "Barbie is shocked to find himself face-to-face with his father in an unforgettable turn of events," executive producer Neal Baer says. Could that mean that Don has been in the dome this whole time? Or, better yet, that Barbie is getting out of the dome?
