A Very Tight Place

A Very Tight Place can be found in the latest issue of McSweeney’s, which is issue 27 by the way. I just finished it and I must say that A Very Tight Place is a very disturbing but also very interesting little story.

I guess that the most disturbing with the story is the situation the main character, Curtis Johnson, finds himself in. He ends up there by the hands of his neighbour Tim Grunwald also referred to as The Motherfucker. You see, Grunwald believes that Curtis is a witch and that he is behind all the bad things that have happened to him lately.

I know this sounds very crazy but to Grunwald it’s the truth and I’m not sure if he is crazy or if it’s the cancer that’s slowly killing him that makes him thing that Curtis is a witch, a gay witch, but he does and as we all know witches needs to be taken care of and that is exactly what Grunewald means to do.

A Very Tight Place is definitely a scary story but not a scary story with monsters but a scary story like in “what if that happened to me?” I definitely felt for Curtis and I don’t know what I would have done if I found myself in the situation he does…

I read A Very Tight Place in a single sitting and I must confess that I did that because I wasn’t able to put it down. It got hold of me from page one and didn’t let go until the very last page. In the magazine it covers 73 pages and they just flew by.

Lilja's final words about A Very Tight Place:

A Very Tight Place is a very fitting title for this story and when it’s out (May 1st), make sure you get your copy ASAP. You don’t want to miss out on this one, believe me!
