Lisey's Story

Posted: June 25, 2005.

At the reading at Maple Street School on Friday evening King read from his upcoming novel Lisey's Story.

King described his novel-in-progress as "a love story, with monsters ... some of them human."

He also gave the audience a disclaimer. "This sort of thing might come back to you tonight," King said, "when it's dark, and you're alone, and there's no one around to hear you scream."

The reading did not disappoint.

The audience heard a story about a man remembering one of the traumatic experiences of his youth. The fictional boy watched his older brother going mad, "snarling like a dog" with a face like "a Halloween mask."

Here is an interesting article about a live run-through done last month for the King-Mellencamp collaboration The Ghost Brothers of Darkland County.

My Summer Hit List

Posted: May 27, 2005.

Today I spoke with the nice people over at Maple Street School (where An Evening with Stephen King will take place on June 24. They told me that it hasn't been decided what King will read yet and unfortunately there is no plans to record the event. They also told me that since it is a community event and they want to be sure local fans can attend, they are selling tickets on a first-come, first-served basis at the school and at the Northshire Bookstore. If they have any tickets left 48 hours before the performance they will contact anyone who showed interest from afar and allow them to purchase tickets with a credit card.

King will be available for Q&A but will be leaving immediately following the reading.

King's latest column is now online. It's called My Summer Hit List and you can read it here.
Thanks to Bev Vincent and Paul Poroshin.

Many of you have been asking me if I know anything about the limited edition of Transgressions and I have been sending mail after mail to the publisher to find out what's up with it. Then today I finally got a reply. It’s not much but the told me that the orders for the book has outnumbered the actual number of copies done and that the decision about which stores that will get the book will be made high up in their sales department…shortly.

I hope to get more info soon and when I do I'm putting it right here on the site for you to read.

It has been reported earlier that a second sequel to Creepshow was going to be done. Now it seams that it has already been shoot. This is from a press release.

I would like to start today’s update by thanking you all! 8 month ago I asked all of you for help by making a donation to Lilja’s Library and many of you did. The really nice thing about it wasn’t really the money (even though they where very well invested) but the feeling that so many of you thought Lilja’s Library was such a good sours for news about our favorite author, Stephen King, that it was worth donating to. That really warmed my heart and I would like to thank you for it. I was hoping that you would like to repay your enjoyment of Lilja’s Library by making a donation and you did!

I have never charged anything for all the information on Lilja’s Library since I started out back in 1996 (wow, has it really been that long?), and I never will but as all of you that own a domain know, the ownership costs as well as maintaining the site and keeping it up to date. Your donations have helped a lot in keeping me on top of all that.

Again, thank you!

Lilja

If anyone of you out there would like to donate to help keeping Lilja’s Library alive and well I offer a convenient way to make a donation via Paypal.com. Just send the money to paypal [at] liljas-library.com or click on the PayPal button.

By making a support donation to Lilja’s Library you are supporting my efforts to keep the site up to date and giving you as many exclusives as I possible can. All proceeds from any donations are utilized exclusively for the ongoing maintenance, support, and development of Lilja’s Library.

The Colorado Kid

Posted: May 9, 2005.

Here is the cover of the audio edition of The Colorado Kid as well as a description of the story:

Stephanie McCann is a journalism student at the University of Ohio. Her summer internship brings her to Moose-Lookit Island, Maine, where she tags along after Vince Teague and David Bowie-two salty newsmen who've been running The Weekly Islander together for forty years.

Over those decades, the old guys have seen it all. With Stephanie's help, they review a cold case involving "The Colorado Kid "-an anonymous tourist visiting the island who turned up dead in the spring of 1980.

The Colorado Kid is classic King. He deftly weaves a charming and funny New England yarn featuring good old-fashioned Island storytelling.

You can pre-order you copy of the book here or the audio edition here.

Here is another article about King's speech at UMO. On the official site it's posted that they will be posting the text of King's speech in the next couple of days.

Thanks to Paul Poroshin.

Here is a comment from the moderator of the message board on King's official site about the length of the upcoming book Lisey’s Story:

The working title at this time is Lisey’s Story and isn’t expected to change. It will probably be approximately in the 5 or 600 page length when it’s typeset.

The Eyes of the Dragon

Posted: April 26, 2005.

In this Friday's issue (April 29) of Entertainment Weekly you will find King's latest column. You can also read it online. No title has been revealed yet though...
Thanks to Paul Poroshin.

According to the moderator of King's message board, the option for the animated version of The Eyes of the Dragon has lapsed.
Thanks to Bev Vincent.

King has apparently co-written the script for The Night Flier 2.

Producer Richard P. Rubinstein, best-known for his collaborations with George Romero on MARTIN, DAWN OF THE DEAD and others, gave Fango the scoop on his upcoming genre projects.

Rubinstein is also still involved in a follow-up to the 1997 Stephen King adaptation THE NIGHT FLIER. "Mark Pavia, director of the original, came to me with a screenplay for the sequel," the producer reports. "I´m don´t usually like sequels, but I thought the script was good and gave it to Stephen to see what he thought." Not only did King enjoy the screenplay, he decided to get directly involved. "I thought the script would sit on his shelf for a while," Rubinstein says, "but suddenly, Steve came to me with a corrected and rewritten screenplay by himself. When I told Mark, I thought he was going to have a heart attack. There were some things he would miss from his original version, but now he had an improved one co-written by Stephen King himself!"

Thanks to Bev Vincent.

As reported earlier Dave Brock (who did The Road Virus Head North) is turning The Library Policeman into a Dollar Baby. Dave and his sister Rebecca is currently working on the second draft of the script which is going to be extremely faithful to the original novella and if all goes well it may even be a feature-length film. Hopefully production starts in 2006.

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon

Posted: April 19, 2005.

The Boston Herald reports that director George Romero's big-screen adaptation of Stephen King's The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon will film in Boston for a few days this summer before moving on to Maine.

Now you can pre-order season 3 of The Dead Zone on DVD.

Fun Fact for today:

On King's message board someone asked if the book Blaze was ever published. The boards moderator then answered that King tried going back to work on Blaze again a few years ago (it hasn’t been completely written), but it still wasn’t working for him. That is quite interesting, don't you think?
